Invitation

      Minister of Education and Science and the organizers of the 13th International Biology Olympiad (13th IBO) – Ministry of Education and Science, Latvia University and Biology Teacher’s Association have the honor inviting your country to participate in the 13th IBO. The IBO 2002 will take place in Riga and Jurmala from the 7th to the 14th of July 2002.

      The aims of the International Biology Olympiad are to promote the interest in biology among young people, to stimulate gifted students to expand their talents and to promote friendly contacts between young people from different countries of the world.

      The following countries are invited to send a delegation within four competitors and two Jury members to the IBO 2002:

      Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, People Republic of China, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Ireland, Kazachstan, Kenia, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Mozambique, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

      According to the IBO rules competitors must be secondary school students - participants and winners of the National Biology Olympiad organized in the country in the current school year. Further information in www.ibo2002.lv

      Each participating country pays a contribution of USD 800 to the host country. For the official observers the participating country pays USD 1000 per person. The name and account number are as follows:

      Please do it as soon as possible and specify your country's name while sending your "fee"!

      The jury leaders of each country have to send well prepared two multiple-choice questions for part A and two questions for part B till the end of this year.
